Creating a Custom Engagement Ring

Congratulations!  You have finally found the one and are ready to shop for an engagement ring.  If you are looking for the perfect ring to show how special your loved one is, consider a custom engagement ring designed to your specifications.  A one-of-a-kind, custom engagement ring will make your future-wife feel like the luckiest woman in the world.  Not only are you involved in the fun, creative process, but you are also choosing a great way to launch the journey of marriage.

Creating a custom engagement ring may seem overwhelming, but it is relatively simple and well worth it in the end.  You may have been told custom rings are expensive.  But fear not, get the designer style without the designer price- only at JF Jones Jewelers.  Follow our tips for making this process seamless and successful!

Set a Budget
The traditional rule of thumb is that the groom should spend 2 month’s salary on an engagement ring.  However, this rule does not always apply in the new age of college loans. .  You should spend whatever feels comfortable for you.  With endless options to choose from, there will be a ring that fits your budget.  If you decide on a ring out of your price range,  we offer layaway, financing and accept trade-ins

Find Her Style
Modern or vintage?  Sleek or detailed?  To find your girlfriend’s ideal engagement ring, you must find what style she likes.  Look through her existing jewelry or peek on her Pinterest account for inspiration.  There are endless style options to choose from that will fit her preferences.  No luck? Bring in her sister or best friend for help!

Choose a Metal
The first step is picking a setting .  The main choices for engagement ring metals are platinum, white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold.  To get a sense of what she likes, take a look at the jewelry she usually wears and go from there.

Select a Diamond or Gemstone
After selecting a setting, it’s time to decide on a stone.  While most engagement rings feature a diamond, sapphire and ruby are popular options for those who want a non-traditional look.  If you’re set on a diamond, don’t forget the 4 C’s: cut, color, clarity and carat.  In addition to the 4 C’s, you’ll also want to choose a diamond shape.  The most popular shapes include round, princess and cushion.

Know Her Ring Size
We don’t want you to stress about the ring size, but a measurement would be helpful to ensure a perfect fit the first time around.
While most women have a 6- or 7 ring size, finding the exact measurement is simple.  Grab a ring she wears on her left ring finger and bring it to us to get measured. If the ring does end up being the wrong size, don’t worry!  We have two jewelers to perform your sizing here in house.
